Re: [TheOptionClub.com] TDAmeritrade & TOS

Rob,

I have both versions installed on my computer and have had no issues. Other than initially, I hardly have both of them on at the same time. You can use the TDA version to login to TOS but not vice-versa (you have change the top right hand corner selection at the login screen).

Having said that I am a computer geek, so I have a high tolerance for any glitches that may happen.

I don't know all the limitations of order types as I don't care ;-) ... because I don't do too many trades in my TDA account.

I just got off the phone with TDAmeritrade.  I was trying to unwind a covered write with a limit price, but the system wouldn't allow me to make the order GTC.  One of their representatives was able to change it from a day order.  It seems that with TDAmeritrade, any multi-legged option spread have to be placed as day orders unless you call and have a representative change it for you.  I brought up the fact that I also have an account at Think or Swim and was looking forward to TDA's platform switching over to TOS.  Well, as it turns out, the TOS platform is now available for TDAmeritrade customers.  So if any of you are out there, click on "Trading Tools," then "Browse All Tools" and a large banner opens up giving you a special invitation to download the the TOS platform.  He told me that it wasn't identical to the one us swimmers are familiar with, but it does have the capacity to enter more than two legs of a complex option spread at the same time.  Until now, butterflies and condors had to be phoned in.

I am personally afraid to download this new program for fear that it may somehow screw up my TOS desktop program in my computer.  With me, Murphy's law always applies when it comes to computers.  So, if anyone has a TDA account and not a TOS account and wants to download the TOS platform, I would certainly be interested in it's functionality and limitations.  Better yet, if any TOS customers have the guts to download the TDA version, let us know if there are any conflicts.  I've been an Ameritrade customer for many years, even before they were Ameritrade, and can't wait to trade my account in the TOS platform.  Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks,
RFH
