The biggest difference between paper trading and real trading is the addition of emotions so tip-toe indeed! Your trading account must never exceed what you are psychology ready for. You may be able to paper trade with 500K and make money 5 years in a row but put 500K in the real market without the emotional intelligence to handle the fluctuations and you are doomed!
