I'd suggest you don't put money on the table and paper trade until you become profitable, then you can invest with real money.
Also, try to learn as much as possible about forecasting direction, be it TA, Gann, astro or whatever, main thing is, it works, i.e. it gives you an edge. Also indexes might be the better choice for a beginner
