Ticker symbols can vary by vendor, especially for things like indexes and options.
Both Yahoo and MSN haven't got their new option symbols act together yet. But you can find all of the ^SPX options here:
http://finance.
Why they have them all linked to ticker symbol I:SPX.W is a mystery to me -- the data related to that symbol (other than the list of options) is old. I suspect they are getting it from their data vendor under that symbol, but haven't been converting to their base ticker symbol that is used on their system. Note that the shaded areas of the option page indicating ITM/OTM are incorrect, because they are based on the bogus I:SPX.W price.
You can try that for other indexes on Yahoo. For example:
http://finance.
And, last I looked, ETFs on MSN have no options listed. Instead, you get a page with his message:
"No options are available for this symbol."
Sorry if this is a stupid question. I've researchedd, done searches, played with yahoo finance, but I can't figure it out.
I've read and heard you can trade S&P 500 index options on SPY or SPX.
However, when I pull up the SPX ticker symbol in yahoo finance, the options link in the left menu is greyed out and disabled.
What is the correct ticker symbol to actually see the options?
Also, I wanted to check out other index symbols and their options, but I can't find any.
I found this list:
http://www.prophet.net/learn/ indexsymbols. jsp
They all have the dollar symbol in front of the symbole, and yahoo finance wants a ^ instead.
Is there a list of the correct symbols where the actual option chain will show?
I went to the CBOE, and on the right, they have a small list, and one of them is RUT, for the russell index. On their site it shows the options, but not on yahoo finance.
Any help would be appreciated.
