Sorry if this is a stupid question. I've researchedd, done searches, played with yahoo finance, but I can't figure it out.
I've read and heard you can trade S&P 500 index options on SPY or SPX.
However, when I pull up the SPX ticker symbol in yahoo finance, the options link in the left menu is greyed out and disabled.
What is the correct ticker symbol to actually see the options?
Also, I wanted to check out other index symbols and their options, but I can't find any.
I found this list:
http://www.prophet.net/learn/indexsymbols.jsp
They all have the dollar symbol in front of the symbole, and yahoo finance wants a ^ instead.
Is there a list of the correct symbols where the actual option chain will show?
I went to the CBOE, and on the right, they have a small list, and one of them is RUT, for the russell index. On their site it shows the options, but not on yahoo finance.
Any help would be appreciated.
