It's not just trading.
The same "opposite of what any sane, rational person would reasonably choose" phenomenon is exhibited in doctors, fighter jet pilots, professional sports, martial arts, the evolution of species and a variety of circumstances and human "norms" where "conventional wisdom" would see the whole world reverting some cosmic mean.
